FROM THE FIREHOUSE
TO THE STATE HOUSE

Abigail is ready to respond to the emergencies facing our state

Abigail believes our government should answer to the people it serves

A focus on community

Abigail Wheeler marks the third generation of her family to grow up in Mattawan. Her families’ blue collar roots and strong work ethic have shaped her perspective. Abigail believes that if you work hard enough, you can get ahead in life. Through her experience as an EMT/Firefighter and local representative, she has seen the troubles that plague her community including a lack of governmental transparency, a need to improve the educational system, and care for Michigan’s greatest resource: it’s water.

Wheeler became a firefighter and licensed EMT in 2017. She is employed by the Texas Township Fire Department and is also a volunteer firefighter for Mattawan. Abigail is calm under pressure and fast acting in an emergency. She has made a positive impact in her community by helping her neighbors during some of the worst moments of their lives.

Working hard to put people first

In 2018, Wheeler ran for Mattawan Village Council in an effort to improve communication between the community and the local government. Abigail was the top vote getter of all the candidates on the ballot. Since her election, Abigail  has prioritized the needs of her community and worked hand-in-hand with her peers to help those most in need.

Wheeler now looks to bring that same work ethic and approach to problem solving to Lansing. Since launching her campaign for State Representative of the 66th district, Abigail has garnered support from groups across the district as well as a following from outside the area. With more than one hundred individual contributors in the first quarter, Abigail is out raising her opponent indicating that she is a candidate worth knowing and that her race will be one to watch in 2020.

Abigail Wheeler's Priorities

Lowering Prescription Drug Costs - Prescription drug prices are skyrocketing, forcing Michiganders to choose between putting food on the table or filling a prescription. We need to lift the burden off working families by lowering the costs of prescription drugs.

Protecting Our Water - For too long the safety of our water has been taken for granted.  The working families of Michigan shouldn't have to question whether the water coming out of the tap is safe for their families to drink.

Transparency and Accountability - Michigan ranks as the worst in the nation in regards to government accountability and transparency.  The people of Southwest Michigan deserve a representative who works for them and not for wealthy corporate backers.
